About

Hello!

My name is Hannah. I'm married to Alex and he has Crohn's Disease. He started on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet in early 2009 and I began making food for him not long after. Since then, I've taken the primary responsibility of making all of the SCD food in the house (with one exception: I seem to suck at making SCD yogurt). I've always loved to bake and cook. Cooking SCD-compliant food has made me adventurous and unafraid to tackle food from scratch.

Alex was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in summer of 2008 at 21. He read Breaking the Vicious Cycle a few months later and decided to give it a shot. He isn't medication free, but he only takes Azathioprine and has managed to stay away from Prednisone since 2009. It's fair to say that the SCD has made a huge difference in how he feels, though his results have been slightly less impressive than some of the essentially-cured people I've read about online.

Alex and I don't always eat the same foods. I try not to eat his food because it's special, more expensive, and took me a lot of work to prepare. Also, I'm a vegetarian, while he eats chicken or turkey every day. We do eat a salad together nightly and I sometimes make dishes for both of us, but for the most part the cooking is all me and the eating is all him.

Thanks for reading and feel free to email me with any questions at scdyums@gmail.com.

  1. Hi Hannah!

I'm so pleased you're sharing the food that you make Alex, your blog is going to be another wonderful resource for the SCD community!

It's funny how everyone reacts and heals differently to the diet. I'm so pleased that your husband has seen a benefit from the diet.

And gosh!! You must be a busy bee in the kitchen with two different diets to cater for.

    1. Thank you! I'm really excited to be blogging. I spend so much time making SCD food and wanted to get into the community aspect of it as well. I am busy in the kitchen, but I love to cook and find it very energizing! :)
